St. Nicholas of Tolentine School

-

We pride our selves on our strong academics. At St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, all classroom i ns truc tion is aligned to the Common Core Standards. Our teachers’ lessons provide knowledge and skills that will help our students succeed in their future education and careers.

Academic excellence

Our students’ l earning is enhanced through technology. We have Smart Boards in every classroom and wireless Internet service, so students can also work in the classroom when not in our updated computer lab. Our students do well on the state and city exams for the ELA and math. They earn scholarships to many area Catholic high schools and attend good NYC public high schools.

Faith and values

The school community strives to conduct itself in a manner that reflects the principles of Christianity, which are: love God and love your neighbor. Our students develop a strong awareness of the needs of the world around us. Community service is a big part of our curriculum. For example, we have an annual fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness. “Be an Angel Day” is a special dress down day for our adopted charities. Monthly school liturgies, a Rosary Rally, and concerts for Christmas and Mary are among our faith and Catholic identity activities.

Student life

We educate the whole child, recognizing the gifts and talents of each student. Whether it is enriching various skills through our monthly mini-courses, or sharing their voices in the choir, band or variety show, our students shine! They take part in our parish youth programs, participating in plays and liturgical roles, as well as retreats, move nights, and other social events. They also compete in the parish CYO sports program.

Additional services

There are many ser vices of fered through our school. The New York City Department of Education provides remedial services for ESL, math and reading, as well as a cold lunch program. Our school offers a Hot Lunch Program. In addition, Bus transportation is provided by the Board of Education. We have a full-time Nurse and a School Social Worker.
