Saint Raymond Academy for Girls
Saint Raymond Academy for Girls is a small school where you will not get lost – your successes will be rewarded, and your individualized needs will be addressed.
Saint Raymond Academy, part of the St. Raymond Parish educational outreach, is a Catholic high school for girls located in the Parkchester section of the Bronx with approximately 381 students in grades 9-12. These girls, who represent a variety of New York City neighborhoods and a mosaic of cultures, are encouraged to reach their God-given potential in a safe, supportive and diverse environment.
Admission to the academy is determined by a student's performance on the archdiocesan’s entrance examination, TACHS, as well as a personal interview and/or recommendation from the student's principal or guidance counselor. While the school is able to provide some limited scholarship assistance to those performing well on a placement test, the Inner City Scholarship and Student Sponsor Program are available for those meeting the criteria determined by those organizations.
As a school with a strong Christian tradition and a deep respect for traditional American values, the s tudent s are encouraged to appreciate the importance and value of learning in a technological world; develop and maintain a faith in their creator; and accept a leadership role by par ticipating in the school's many activities and teams. It is the mission of the academy to accompany its students on the journey to becoming successful and accountable women in a dynamic society. In order to bet ter achieve these goals, the school wa s recognized with the NYS Board of Regents Charter (1965) and received Middle States Accreditation in 2003, which was recently renewed.
The program of studies is primarily college oriented with business, computer and science electives included in upper years. In addition to preparing students for a New York State Regents Diploma with four-year programs in English, social studies, mathematics, Spanish and science, the school also offers Advanced Placement courses in English Literature and Composition, United St ate s History and Spanish Literature and Language.
In September 2013, the academy started a program called Focus on Success. This course is a collaborative effort sponsored by the academy, the NYC Department of Education and Catapult Learning. In the program, students work in small groups with a teacher to develop the academic skills necessar y to be successful in high school, including basic math, reading and writing skills, organization and study techniques. The course is programmed into the regular academic schedule.
