Hayesmen Carry a Tradition of Excellence

-

The mission of Cardinal Hayes High School is to provide a challenging Catholic education to young men by encouraging their unique talents and fostering self-development.

Located within walking distance of Yankee Stadium, Cardinal Hayes provides students with a first-class learning environment. It is the school that has made “the Concourse Grand” and has served the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, for nearly 72 years. Cardinal Hayes High School has helped form young men in grades 9 through 12 into “Hayesmen.” This long tradition has helped foster the creative spirit and hard-working ethos of many noted alumni including Regis Philbin, Martin Scorsese, Jamal Mashburn and Willie Colon (currently playing for the New York Jets).

Through a rigorous program of academics, extracurricular activities, discipline and spiritual growth, Cardinal Hayes High School is able to engender a life-long intellectual curiosity in its students, as well as self-discipline, personal integrity and the responsibility of engaged citizenship. These skills emerge through the tenets and principles of a faith-based Catholic education.

The closely-knit student body and strong faculty-student faculty student relationships provide an optimal learning environment, which is why over 98% of graduating seniors continue on to pursue post-secondary studies. These students are prepared for the rigors of the college experience by faculty who place significant emphasis on diverse, interdisciplinary studies while also accounting for each student’s unique needs. The school provides a full college-prep program; works with those students with individual education plans; and has the ability to address the wide variety of learning styles found in its students.

Hayes students are provided with state of the art technology due to the generosity of many of its alumni. These donations have allowed the students to have access to computer labs, science labs, video conferencing capability in the classrooms that provide opportunities for interactive learning and WiFi access. The newly created Martin Scorsese Media Center provides students with access to video and media production tools in a state-of-the-art studio.

The school, besides offering opportunities to study the art of filmmaking, also provides wide-ranging, extracurricular activities. The music program at Cardinal Hayes gives students an opportunity to participate in concert band, marching band and a jazz/ rock ensemble. Athletics are also an important component of the Cardinal Hayes experience. Whether it’s football, baseball, soccer, track, basketball, lacrosse or bowling, Cardinal Hayes’ top-to-bottom athletic program offers all students an opportunity to learn the importance of team spirit and sportsmanship.

Tuition at Cardinal Hayes is still among the lowest in comparison to all other Catholic and private high schools in the City of New York. Tuition assistance is also available to parents who qualify.

Cardinal Hayes High School seeks to inspire students to strive for personal excellence and responsible citizenship rooted within a Catholic framework and traditional gospel values.
