The Advantages of a St. Aloysius Education

-

At St. Aloysius, no child will be turned away because they can’t afford the tuition. We are proud to make the St. Aloysius education and experience affordable for all. St. Aloysius is an independent Jesuit school l in Harlem, offering an excellent education to children at risk of not meeting their potential. We serve youth from age 3 to 14 (pre-kindergarten through eighth grade), regardless of religious affiliation. We also provide financial support and services to our alumni throughout their high school years.

Our transformative program nurtures the academic, social and spiritual development of our children, driving success in high school, college and beyond. The curriculum includes a strong foundation in fundamentals, as well as an array of after-school and extended-day programs, cutting-edge technology, an extensive library, integrated music and art programs, a graduate support program, an oratory program, athletics, summer school, summer leadership camp, and much more.

We have tracked our students for better than 20 years and virtually all of our graduates have matriculated to good high schools, most to private or charter schools. Furthermore, in striking contrast to the 35% high school graduation rate of African American students in New York State, 98% of St. Aloysius students graduate from high school on time. Most go on to college or pursue additional higher education. By the time they graduate, all St. Aloysius students have read 100 books in middle school. We do all of this through a comprehensive, academically challenging, literature-based program that includes support of the family and the whole child.

Our school is organized around four distinct programs: the Mother Theodore Program for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, the Pierre Toussaint Program for grades 1 through 5 and the Bowman Gonzaga Academy for grades 6 through 8. In addition to strong core academics, St. Aloysius faculty have developed an array of rich programming, including vibrant visual arts, music, oratory, poetry, dance, sports, an extended school day for middle school and summer programs.

Our vision is that children in our community will have access to the loving support and holistic programming that will lead to success in high school and open doors to good colleges. Furthermore, we envision our alumni not only succeeding in their chosen fields, but also developing a deep appreciation of their cultural heritage, a healthy sense of self-esteem and a commitment to giving back to their communities.

St. Aloysius is located at 223 W. 132 Street in Harlem. For more information please contact Vickie Davis at (212) 283-0921, ext 2213, or visit www.staloysiusschool.org.
