St. Joseph’s School — Yorkville

Committed to Faith, Academics, Service and Family

-

Enrollment is strong at St. Joseph’s School — Yorkville, a familyoriented elementary school for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students located on 87th St. just east of First Ave. in Manhattan that emphasizes both academic excellence and social action. This quiet location is easily accessible thanks to its adjacency to the cross-town 86th Street bus line and No. 4, 5, and 6 subways.

The teachers at St. Joseph’s are focused on preparing their students for the future by encouraging them to learn and explore while providing them the tools to succeed. Technology is an important learning tool at the school, where students become familiarized with the Internet, Smart Boards, computers and iPads at an early age, learning to integrate digital components into their schoolwork.

St. Joseph’s follows the Common Core Standards, which stress the importance of life skills, preparing students for the rigors of high school and college. As a school formed in the Catholic faith, morals, values and religious education are infused into its curriculum, too.

A newly renovated gymnasium, as well as an art studio and enrichment program affords students the space for physical growth, as well as opportunities to express their individuality. The school has three science labs, allowing for hands-on learning; and foreign language is introduced starting in pre-K 3. Its enrichment offerings include chess, dance, band, robotics and drama, a popular program for students that aids them in becoming fluent public speakers, confident performers and supportive team players.

It’s common for students to come to St. Joseph’s as pre-kindergartners and stay through grade 8. Students of St. Joseph’s are regularly accepted into the Catholic high schools of their choice. “Our graduates are faith-filled, lifelong learners who are responsible citizens with a commitment to social action,” says Principal Theresa Bernero.
