Learning Does Not End When the Bell Rings at St. Lucy’s School

-

St. Lucy’s School in the Bronx has been instilling its core beliefs of message, community and service in its students since the school’s founding in 1954. Students at St. Lucy’s school receive the standard curriculum of reading and arithmetic, but are also exposed to the values and ideals of a strong Catholic education. St. Lucy’s fosters a connection between the clergy, faculty, parents and students in order to promote an active Christian community and provide a positive, well-rounded education.

Principal Jane Stefanini has been on the faculty of St. Lucy’s school since 1980 when she began as a teacher. She has served as the principal for the past nine years. Like Principal Stefanini, most of the faculty members at St. Lucy’s have been at the school for over 10 years, which speaks a great deal to their dedication and passion for St. Lucy’s and teaching. All of the classrooms are equipped with Smart-Board technology.

Learning does not end at St. Lucy’s when the bell rings at the end of the day. Extracurricular activities offered at St. Lucy’s school include choir, basketball, cheerleading, softball, drama club and band. The school also provides free early morning drop off and an after-school program. Another great feature offered by St. Lucy’s School is the homework club, which brings together small groups of students who want to catch up or get ahead in their studies.

In the summer months, St. Lucy’s offers educational programs as well. The summer enrichment program at the school provides students with a refresher course, so to speak, in reading and math. The program prepares current students for the upcoming school year and allows new students to become accustom to the school.

Outside of the classroom, St. Lucy’s school instructs its students to become active members of the community. Students from all grades participate in numerous service projects while attending the school, including stocking the local food pantry, visiting nursing homes and making cards for nursing-home residents. These service projects introduce students to the joy and fulfillment of community service.

St. Lucy’s school is dedicated to the success of all of its students in their academic careers. It aims to equip its students with the tools to both excel academically and become positive and active members of the community. St. Lucy’s is accredited by AdvancED and North Central Association. St. Lucy’s School is located at 830 Mace Ave. in the Bronx. For more information on St. Lucy’s School, visit www.stlucys.org.
