“We take pride in our flexible schedule that caters to students looking to gain self-defense skills while staying fit,” says Doug Pelinkovic Owner and head instructor of BMAA. “We stress the importance of martial arts being a way of life, the same hard work and dedication put in on the mats during each cla ss is the same hard work and dedication that they should apply in school.”

BMA A of fers a block of children’s classes from 4 p.m to 6:30 p.m Mondays through Fridays. BMA A tries to ensure that its young members stay active immediatel­y af ter school and get home at a decent hour to be able to focus on their school work . BMAA offers classes for children as young as three years old.

The academy operates in a family type atmosphere to cultivate a community amongst its members and it s world- cla ss instructor­s. It of fers cla sses in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Shotokan Karate, a s well a s ba sic Thai Boxing.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are taught by Renzo Gracie and John Danaher black and brown belts. For students interested in learning Shotokan Karate, BMAA offers cla sses taught by national champions with more than 20 years combined experience with in depth knowledge of the art . Pelinkovic himself holds a black in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Gracie and Danaher. He is also a three-time USA National team member and four-time national champion.

“At the Bronx Martial Arts Academy, we set high standards for ourselves and we challenge each other to achieve our best in all that we do,” Pelinkovic says, “We train hard, train smart and treat everyone with respect. We believe that through the practice of martial arts, we become bet ter people. Through ef for t and dedication, our martial arts training improves not only our lives, but also the lives of those around us.”

With black-belt martial artists amongst their instructor­s and a brand-new facilit y furnished with top-of-the-line quality mats and equipped with men’s and women’s locker rooms complete with showers, BMAA has everything students need for a great training experience regardless of age or experience level.
