Austin was ceremoniously selected by new NBA commissioner Adam Silver at the NBA draft at Barclays Center less than a week after the 20-year-old was forced to retire because of Marfan syndrome, rare genetic disorder.

NHL SALARY CAP ON RISE

After a year of record revenues, the NHL salary cap is going up again. The exact figure for 2014-15 hasn’t been set yet, but the final number is expected to be in the high $60 millions or low $70 millions.

Ex-Islanders and Canucks enforcer Gino Odjick says he has a rare terminal illness. Odjick, in a letter published on the Canucks’ website, said he was diagnosed with AL (Primary) Amyloidosis two months ago. The disease is “causing abnormal protein to be produced and deposits are being formed on my heart,” said Odjick.

“It’s hardening my heart and my doctors aren’t sure how long I have to live,” added the 43-yearold former forward.
