Wizards lose Beal with broken wrist

Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal will need surgery for a non-displaced fracture of his his non-shooting left wrist. The third-year player could miss up to two months, according to a Washington Post report.

He was hurt in the first quarter of a preseason game against Charlotte on Friday night.

The Wizards said Saturday that they will announce a timeline for Beal’s recovery after the operation.

Beal averaged 17.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season, pairing with John Wall to give the Wizards one of the NBA’s most dynamic young backcourt pairs and help the team reach the second round of the playoffs.

U.S. ADDS DEMPSEY, BRADLEY

Seattle forward Clint Dempsey and Toronto midfielder Michael Bradley were among six Major League Soccer players added to the U.S. roster for Tuesday night’s exhibition game against Honduras in Boca Raton, Fla. Five of the additions were on the U.S. roster for this year’s World Cup.

In addition to Dempsey and Bradley, Kansas City defender Matt Besler and midfielder Graham Zusi also were added along with New England midfielder Jermaine Jones. The sixth addition was Chicago goal- keeper Sean Johnson. Six players who were on the roster for Friday’s 1-1 tie against Ecuador in Hartford, Conn, were returned to their clubs. Forward Landon Donovan, who made his 157th and final internatio­nal appearance, rejoined the Los Angeles Galaxy for their match Sunday at Dallas. Lee Nguyen scored in the 69th minute to give the New England Revolution the point it needed to clinch an Eastern Conference playoff spot in a 2-2 tie with the host Montreal Impact. Kelyn Rowe also scored for New England, 7-1-1 in its last nine matches and 15-13-4 overall. Ned Grabavoy and Sebastian Velasquez scored first-half goals and host Real Salt Lake (14-8-10) clinched its seventh consecutiv­e playoff berth, beating the San Jose Earthquake­s, 2-0.

South Korean Bae Sang-moon took the lead early and expanded it late Saturday in the Frys.com Open, had a 7-under 65 and took a four-shot lead at 16-under 200 going into the final round of the Frys.com Open in Napa, Calif. Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum birdied seven of the first 10 holes and finished with a 6-under 65 to take a three-stroke lead in the LPGA Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Phatlum, winless on the LPGA Tour, had a 14-under 199 total.
