JAMEIS ROCKS!

QB’s focus is on field, not off it

SYRACUSE — After his team picked up a 38-20 win over Syracuse at the Carrier Dome Saturday afternoon, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was asked whether he thought he would play for his topranked team at home against Notre Dame next week. “Of course,” Winston said. Winston, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, faced questions about his eligibility because of an ESPN report that he recently received a letter from the university’s Vice President of Student Affairs, Mary J. Coburn, that notified Winston that he might be charged with as many as four violations of FSU’s student conduct code, two of which involve sexual conduct.

“It’s not about distractions,” Winston said. “It’s about playing Florida State football ... When we get on the field, that’s a sanctuary. When we get in between the lines, all those cameras on you. We out there playing football, man.”

Winston was not charged last year after an investigation into an alleged sexual assault from December 2012, but Florida State is currently under investigation by the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, which is trying to determine whether the university properly protected the woman’s Title I X rights when she accused Winston.

Winston’s attorney, David Cornwell, posted on Twitter, “FSU creates new procedures 2 investigate the false allegations. Declines to charge Jameis w/ a violation of Code of St udent Conduct. #1ststep.”

Winston led Florida State to a 14-0 record and the BCS national championship as a freshman last season. Florida State is now 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the ACC.
