Jasmine Lopez & Wilfredo Santos Jr.

- Alison Bowen

Manhattan. Jasmine and Wilfredo met on My Space. He reached out to her, they became fast friends over the phone, and they went on their first date in 2009.

The two quickly began dating regularly, going out to movies, dinner or amusement parks, such as Wilfredo’s first visit to Disney World in Orlando.

“I like to do adventurous things. He’s more reserved,” says Jasmine, 27, a pastry chef. “So I kind of push him to do things outside of his comfort zone.”

They became engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2013, when Wilfredo, 31, a general accounting manager, proposed at her cousin’s house.

They had come to visit for her cousin’s Sweet 16 party. He secretly planned to take advantage of the family being together to propose. He popped the question in a rare moment when they were alone.

“I turned around, and everyone was gone, and he proposed,” says Jasmine. They were then able to cel- ebrate their engagement with the entire family.

Their ceremony was held at Most Holy Redeemer Church on the Lower East Side, with the reception following at the Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn, since the groom is from the Lower East Side and the bride is from Bushwick.

“We kind of had a mesh of both the boroughs,” she says.

To honor Wilfredo’s mother and her grandfather, who had both passed away, the Clinton Hill couple integrated the color purple throughout the ceremony.

The couple’s first look was one of the bride’s favorite moments during the ceremony.

“Seeing him standing there,” she says, “it was kind of the realization that it was actually happening.”
