Killer cop ma: He’s a good guy

THE MOTHER of accused killer cop Michael Slager says her son is not the man now widely viewed as a national symbol of racist policing.

“He’s a wonderful person, he’s very sharing, very caring,” Karen Sharpe told CBS News about her 33-year-old son. “I was shocked, just — just shocked. I couldn’t imagine this of Michael.”

Sharpe and her daughter-in-law, eight-months pregnant Jamie Slager, remained unwaveringly behind the jailed pariah after they visited the incarcerated ex-police officer.

It was their first visit since his arrest in the April 4 shooting of Walter Scott. Sharpe, wearing sunglasses, and Jamie Slager (left), in a sweater to cover her baby bump, were seen leaving the jail together on Friday.

Michael Slager, a white officer with the North Charleston, S.C., police, was charged with murder after he was caught on video pumping eight shots toward the black man’s back. Scott, 50, was hit four times in the back and once on the ear.

Sharpe added that she was rattled by the prospect of Jamie Slager welcoming a child while her husband is locked up.

Michael Slager is jailed without bond, and his wife could deliver at any time.

“I’m anxious about that — he won’t be there for the birth, so I’m worried about her,” she said. “This is not how you would think it would ever be ... He and his wife are expecting a baby quite shortly.”

Slager was placed in protective custody at the jail.

He was arrested last Tuesday, three days after stopping Scott for investigation of a broken tail light.

The disgraced former officer initially claimed he feared for his life before opening fire on the unarmed man.
