Suited to a tease
New York TV Festival presents trailers for would-be shows
TRAILERS FOR movies and TV make everything look good.
So it’s no surprise that almost all of the 50 trailers that the New York Television Festival has released look like winners, although only a handful will snare development deals in the fall. All 50, including 15 made by New Yorkers, will be screened for ticket-holders at the festival Oct. 19-24.
Among the NYC-made shows:
“The Accidental Wolf,” a thriller starring Tony winner Kelli O’Hara (“The King and I”).
“Black Rose,” a gritty drama about teen abductions in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
“Funny Cause It’s True,” a “Mythbusters”-style show in which comedians hit the street to act out situations from their routines. Is it true, for example, that guys go for dimwitted girls? A female comic finds out.
Festival officials say they winnowed the list down from more than 1,500 submissions.
As a public service, the Daily News has watched all 50 trailers — which can be found on YouTube by searching with the term “NYTVF 2015.” Some look great. Some don’t. Standouts so far include:
“The HOA,” a comedy about a dysfunctional homeowners’ association; it stars “Saturday Night Live” alums Cheri Oteri and Horatio Sanz.
“The Midnight Anthology,” in the “Twilight Zone” vein.
“School Nurse,” a comedy starring Collette Wolfe (“Interstellar”) and lots of little kids with runny noses.
“Sox News,” an obvious parody of Fox News Channel using sock puppets. There’s a joke to be made here, but we’ll leave it alone.
