Mind over meter with no-pay plan
CALL IT A holiday from parking fees.
City Councilman Vincent Gentile (D-Brooklyn) will introduce a bill Wednesday to suspend parking meter payments on dozens of holidays a year.
Under the legislation, meters would be curbed on all legal holidays — Presidents’ Day, Martin Luther King Day and Veterans Day, for example, when drivers are currently required to feed them.
Meters would also be suspended for a slew of Christian, Jewish and Muslim holidays, Lunar New Year, Diwali and Election Day — all the days when alternate-side parking is currently curtailed.
The number of off-days would grow to about 40 if the bill passes.
The city Department of Transportation said it would review the bill.
