15 more amazin’ things to sell

- BY ANDY CLAYTON

The Mets don’t care about their history.

There is no other explanation for a franchise that happily sells off one of the most prized pieces of memorabilia — Mike Piazza’s jersey from the first game played post 9/11. That was the game when the Hall of F Famebou bound cat catcher hom homered in dra dramatic fas fashion in the eighth inn inning to lif lift the M Mets to vi victory ov over the B Braves, a and gave a city — and countryt — searchinghi forf something to feel good about a chance to rally together, and for one brief moment feel like the world wasn’t completely spinning out of control.

Apparently, it’s just another jersey to the Metsies, who gave it up three years ago in a private auction.

Instead of being part of a collection at the Mets museum at Citi Field — a ballpark that pays tribute to another franchise! — it’s going to the highest bidder.

OK, is our outrage at the way the Mets deal with their Amazin’ past clear?

Since the Mets treat their history as if it is meaningless junk, here are a few suggested items from team lore that can go on the auction block: 1 A vial of Wilmer Flores’ tears from last year’s trade deadline meltdown at Citi Field. 2 The pants Ruben Tejada was wearing the night Chase Utley broke his leg during the NLDS. 3 Willie Randolph’s return ticket from L.A. in 2008 after the Mets fired the skipper in the middle of the night in hopes of messing with our deadlines (we had the story on our website before 4 a.m.). 4 The cab receipt from Duaner Sanchez’s ill-fated late-night cab ride in Florida in 2006 that ended with the pitcher’s shoulder being separated. 5 Ex-GM Steve Phillips’ little black book. 6 Wads of Lenny Dykstra’s chew collected from the outfield and around second base at Shea Stadium. 7 Tom Glavine’s tooth that he lost in 2004 when his cab from LaGuardia slammed into the back of an SUV. 8 Bobby Valentine’s glasses and fake mustache from when the skipper tried to pull a fast one on the umps after his 1999 ejection. 9 A DNA sample from David Cone’s 1989 bullpen “session.” 10 Vince Coleman’s used firecracker from the 1993 Dodger Stadium incident. 11 12 The empty bleach bottle that Bret Saberhagen used in the clubhouse in 1993. 13 The deck of cards used by Rickey Henderson and Bobby Bonilla during 1999

NLCS.N 14 The golf club that knocked Doc Gooden from a scheduled 1993 start a against the Dodgers. 15 The old home run apple from Shea. Mets fans love seeing it outside C Citi Field, so it’s sure to be gone s soon.
