New info in ’06 slay case

- Ryan Sit

A GROUP OF lucky Brooklyn second-graders got the surprise of a lifetime Monday. Twenty-five students at Public School 31 Samuel F. Dupont in Greenpoint won the Daily News’ annual Win a Universal Orlando Class Trip contest by collecting the most bar codes from the spines of print editions of New York’s Hometown Newspaper. “I’m excited!” said THE MAIN suspect in a decadeold cold case may finally be tied to the horrific murder of a 16-yearold Brooklyn honors student, according to a new report.

Evidence has emerged that the man long-suspected of killing Chanel Petro-Nixon (pictured left), who vanished on Father’s Day in 2006 and was discovered four days later strangled and stuffed in a garbage bag in Bedford-Stuyvesant, may be a serial killer, PIX11 reported Monday.

The NYPD and the Brooklyn district attorney’s office have focused their investigation on 29-year-old Veron Primus, a former middle-school classmate of the teen. Angelo Skowronska, 8, as he and other classmates cheered from their seats. “I’m going to be with my friends at a hotel and then we get to ride the roller coasters. I can’t wait!”

Leila Soto, 7, said she was thrilled all that hard work paid off.

“It surprised me that we won! I was hoping we collected enough bar codes — and we did,” she said. “My mom is going to be like, ‘Oh my God. I can’t believe it!’ ”

Their teachers Margo Kozak and Caitlin Polizano are also looking forward to the trip.

“I’ve never been there so I’m just as excited,” said Kozak. “A lot of them would not have had this opportunity if not for the Daily News. I’m so happy for them.”

Each student on the trip will be accompanied by an adult, plus their teacher and the school’s principal.
