Kin honor vic of cop ‘rager’

- BY KERRY BURKE and DENIS SLATTERY

THE SOUND of gospel hymns floated through the Brooklyn air Tuesday as mourners gathered to say goodbye to Delrawn Small.

A funeral service was held at Harmony Funeral Home in Flatbush for the 37-year-old shot to death by an off-duty NYPD cop during a roadrage incident last Monday.

Many in the crowd wore T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase “Rest in Paradise” above an image of Small.

Relatives of the father of three held hands, cried and consoled one another near Small’s white casket, which was surrounded by wreaths and bouquets of roses and baby’s breath.

“That was my little brother,” said Ali Dempsey, 42. “I’ve got nothing but kind words for my little brother.”

There was anger mixed with grief at the service as the reality of the loss settled over Small’s family. Many called for answers from the NYPD.

“I was the first one on the scene and they wouldn’t tell me about my brother. They wouldn’t do their job,” Dempsey said. “It’s going to take a minute to figure things out on their end.

“I hope they fulfill what we need on our end.”

Officer Wayne Isaacs was stripped of his gun and shield, the NYPD said Monday. He was placed on modified duty as the department and the state attorney general’s office investigate the shooting and review damning video that shows the cop firing at Small seconds after the doomed man approached Issacs’ car.

“This affects the entire family. We’re devastated, we are just heartbroken,” said Small’s mother-in-law, Cheryl Westbrook. “We don’t know why the NYPD fears young African-American men.”

Small will be interred Wednesday at Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, N.J.
