Eye of Newt on demonic ticket
Move by Fox News hints he’ll be Trump VP
WASHINGTON — Fox News Channel suspended its contract with Newt Gingrich on Tuesday amid growing buzz that he may be Donald Trump’s pick for a running mate.
“Due to the intense media speculation about Gingrich’s potential selection as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, we felt it best to (cut) his contributor role on the network to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise,” Fox Executive Vice President Jay Wallace said in a statement.
The decision hints that Gingrich may be readying a move to join Trump’s campaign — and soon — with the real-estate mogul expected to make a public announcement on Friday.
Gingrich said during an appearance on Fox News Channel Tuesday that he expected Trump to make a decision “over the next two or three days” — adding that he thought he, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie were finalists.
Gingrich and Pence have increasingly been viewed as likely picks for Trump, who has said in recent days that he’s leaning toward picking a politician over an outsider.
Picking the former House speaker would double down on the Republican ticket’s divisiveness — Gingrich has long been known for his bare-knuckle style and nasty remarks, like calling Barack Obama “the food stamp President.”
Furthermore, at 73, he’s older even than the 70-year-old Trump.
Speculation over Trump’s running mate comes as it was revealed the presumptive GOP presidential nominee praised his opponent Hillary Clinton the last time she ran for President.
“I know her, and she’d make a good President or a good vice president,” the billionaire said on his nationally syndicated 60-second radio show “Trumped!”
At the time, Clinton was competing against Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination. Trump said the pair would be a “dream ticket” if only they could settle on who would be No. 1.
The compliment stands in stark contrast to Trump’s current rhetoric on the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
The Trump in the “Trumped!” commentary series — which was unearthed by the Wall Street Journal — sounds dramatically different from the 2016 presidential wannabe.
The radio series ran from 2004 and 2008 and let the businessman spout off about current events.
On Tuesday, Clinton nabbed the support of “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also took a few shots at Trump.
Speaking at a special Tuesday matinee, Miranda said, “This November, the differences could not be more stark . . . . Are you going to vote for the guy who wants to build a wall or for someone who is building bridges?”
Miranda has previously been neutral in the White House race but has been critical of politicians who use “anti-immigrant rhetoric.” Our Own,” a song used by both Sanders and President Obama on the campaign trail, the two waved and smiled as they sought to put a sometimes-tense primary behind them and unite against Donald Trump.
“I can’t help but reflect how much more enjoyable this election is going to be now that we are on the same side. Because you know what? We are stronger together,” Clinton said, using her campaign slogan to bear-hug Sanders.
Clinton promised Sanders’ supporters that they would “always have a seat at the table” as Sanders clapped and smiled. They both discussed their efforts to unite the Democratic National Committee platform, on which Sanders won some major concessions, including raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Clinton’s GOP opponent, Trump, took to Twitter to blast both.
“Bernie Sanders endorsing crooked Hillary Clinton is like Occupy Wall Street endorsing Goldman Sachs,” he said.
