Cops kill dancer’s dog
DETECTIVES SHOT and killed a charging pit bull that belonged to one of Madonna’s backup dancers, after the dog bit one of the officers in Brooklyn on Tuesday, police sources and neighbors said.
The detectives were trying to arrest a 29-year-old man on Montauk Ave. near Blake Ave. in East New York just after 5:15 p.m., sources said, when the creep released the hound.
One officer was bitten on the arm, and a cop then shot the dog, sources said. The detectives were taken to Jamaica Hospital and the suspect, whose identity and charges have not been disclosed, was taken into custody.
The suspect wasn’t the pooch’s owner, said neighbors. Stonny Boy, 3, belonged to Stanley Mondesir, a “bone breaking” contortionist dancer who uses the stage name Sheik and tours with Madonna.
Mondesir was in Los Angeles on Tuesday, his family and neighbors said. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful. But his sister said the dog was lovable.
“He’s never bitten anybody before, never. He’s just protective, and that’s his yard,” said Crystal Mondesir, 29. “Stonny is calm, sweetheart, everybody love him.”
She refused to discuss how she knew the suspect and accused the cops of overreacting. “He wouldn’t have attacked them. They could have just called animal control. They didn’t have to kill him.”
Micky Burgos, 57, a longtime resident of the block, said she was returning from a day care center when shots rang out.
“The officer just stood there. I told him it wasn’t his fault,” she said. “He was sort of numb, he was just in shock.”
