Oh, SNAP! 3 yrs. in jail
A FORMER city employee who peddled more than $250,000 in fraudulent food stamps for cash bribes was sentenced to three years in federal lockup Wednesday.
Harry Fletcher, 46, copped to solicitation and receipt of bribes in April for doling out the bogus Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP benefits from 2009 to 2015.
The disgraced ex-Human Resources Administration eligibility specialist worked with two people receiving the sketchy benefits, who in turn recruited others to the scheme, the city Department of Investigation said Wednesday in a statement.
The Bronx resident would give out the loaded electronic benefit transfer cards for kickbacks.
He pocketed about $20,000 from the scam, the feds said.
His lawyer, Margaret Shalley, said he “accepted responsibility for his actions” and is “hoping that the time goes quickly.”
