“Hands of Stone” director wants to knock down
wall with his movie about legendary Panamanian fighter
“When you grow up in Latin America, Hands of Stone (Duran’s nickname) is almost like a superhero name that you hear in your house as a kid,” the Venezuelan director told us at his film’s premiere in Chelsea. “I started looking for a story that I could tell that could change the Latino stereotype. You live in a world (now) where you can call Latinos rapists and drug dealers and criminals and still have a shot at being the President of the United States.”
