A REAL BLAST!

Powers Mets’ rout

- Rout of Phillies.

GETTY credited an improved slider and a renewed ability to locate his sinker on either corner of the plate.

Syndergaard, who struck out seven and walked two, is now 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA in four career starts against the Phillies.

Cespedes’ three-run homer in the fourth inning, which came on the eighth pitch on his at-bat and landed 423 feet away in the second deck down the left-field line, not only electrified the crowd of 35,832, it blew open what had been a one-run game. Cabrera hit a two-run homer in the third to erase a 1-0 deficit.

Johnson hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning, giving the Mets consecutive games with slams for the first time since July 16 and 18, 2006 when Carlos Beltran hit both.

Walker hit his 23rd homer in the eighth to match his career high.

“It’s like they’re trying to outdo each other,” Collins quipped.

“Those guys are hitting the ball all over the ballpark,” Syndergaard added. “It’s a lot easier to pitch.”

The four homers give the Mets a record 87 at Citi Field this season, eclipsing the mark of 85 set by last year’s club.

Syndergaard even got in on the slugging, blasting a double to center field with one out in the fourth, his sixth extra-base hit and third double of the year. He eventually trotted home on Cespedes’ long homer, which was the outfielder’s 26th of the season, but first he was almost in harm’s way.

“That was all just reflex,” he said of avoiding the foul liner. “I didn’t think it was that close to me.”

Yeah, and that’s because there’s so much going for the Mets right now, for a change.
