Golden restraint on Ryan
OLYMPIC GOLD medalist Simone Manuel (inset) wore her bling — two gold and two silver medals — when she appeared at Kids’ Day at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 20-year-old swimming powerhouse happily chatted about Michael Phelps, who congratulated her after she won gold in the 100-meter freestyle, but was understandably a little reluctant to dish on Ryan Lochte. When Confidenti@l asked her if she was concerned over Lochte being charged with providing false testimony over a “robbery” attempt in Brazil, Manuel blithely answered, “No, he’s safe, and I think that’s the most important thing. And hopefully we can kind of get away from that and focus on the great performances that USA Swimming has had.” When asked if the embattled Lochte is a nice guy, the Stanford student succinctly answered, “Yeah,” without going into any details. Ansel Elgort thrilled the crowds hitting the ball opposite another Olympic medalist, tennis champ Jack
Sock. The “Divergent” actor more than held his own competing against top-seeded Sock. Meanwhile, at the Taste of Tennis event, tennis champ Rafael
Nadal hooked up with celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson for a cooking demonstration. When asked where the best olive oil comes from, the 30-year-old Spanish star replied, “Spain, of course!” He also confessed to always chowing down on seafood while training, but said he does not eat paella very often. “If you eat paella every day, you cannot play tennis,” he explained. Also spotted at the culinary event, which raises money to promote healthy eating for schoolchildren, were Danish player Caroline Wozniacki, who slipped behind a food station to help out, and Venus and Serena Williams. Venus and tennis player Gael Monfils also made it up to the DJ booth to give a shoutout to the crowd.
