Met ‘W’ is with heavy hearts

SIX GAMES remain now for the Mets to determine whether they will be returning to the playoffs, beginning with one many of them acknowledg­ed will be an emotional and difficult night on Monday in Miami.

The Mets plan to be nothing but respectful this week in taking part in any tributes for Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who died along with two others early Sunday when their 32-foot vessel slammed into a jetty off Miami Beach. At the same time, Terry Collins expects to remind his players in a team meeting before the series that they still must concentrat­e on the task at hand of clinching a wild-card berth.

The Mets certainly did that on Sunday, as Robert Gsellman worked seven shutout frames – and the Mets poured it on late by scoring 11 times in their final two innings for a season-best run total – in a 17-0 victory over the Phillies in the regular-season finale at Citi Field.

With their third win in four games this weekend against the lowly Phils, the Mets (83-73) nudged a game ahead in the NL wild card race of San Francisco — which lost Sunday — and 1.5 games up on the Cardinals, who fell 3-1 to the Cubs.

“I know we will be very, very respectful (in Miami), but there is still a lot at stake,” Collins said. “Our guys, they’re a special group. We wanted to honor (Fernandez), so we put his jersey in our dugout. (Yoenis) Cespedes did it, which I thought was really cool. All the guys walked by and gave it a tap.

“And (Monday’s) going to be a tough day, really going to be a tough one. But we got through this one today…I’m glad it’s over and I’ll be glad when tomorrow’s over.”

Indeed, at owner Jeff Wilpon’s suggestion, Cespedes taped a Mets jersey with Fernandez’s name and number (16) on the back in the Mets dugout as a
