Fitz aside, it’s a ‘sh---y’ all-around day vs. KC

six) of interceptions resulted in the Jets’ brutal loss to the Chiefs on Sunday, 24-3. The six interceptions — which included three in the end zone and one for a pick-six — were a career-high for Fitzpatrick, who played like the journeyman quarterback he is reputed to be, rather than the man who earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week Honors last week. The quarterback was the key cog in an overall abysmal day for Gang Green, which dropped to 1-2. “It was a sh---y game plan. Sh---y execution. Sh---y all around,” Todd Bowles said after the game. “I’m disappointed. Pissed off. Mad.” Just 10 days ago, Gang Green Nation was filled with optimism after the Jets beat the Bills on Thursday night. Now they sit at 1-2. “That’s embarrassing and it can’t happen,” Brandon Marshall said of his team’s performance on Sunday. “We can either go one of two ways as a team. After a smack in the face like this you can either fold and not jell as a team or you can use this as a character-building game and look at what’s going on internally.”

Ball security was bad across the board, as Jalin Marshall and Bilal Powell each added fumbles that contributed to the loss. The eight total turnovers are tied for second all-time in franchise history, behind a loss to the Patriots in 1976, per ProFootball-Reference.com.

The Jets’ defense only surrendered 10 points — one of the Chiefs’ touchdowns came off of Jalin Marshall’s fumble on a kick return and Derrick Johnson ran back a pick-six — but Bowles said he did not think that side of the ball played well, either.

“No I don’t. Not at all,” he said. “We missed tackles, we had trouble with leverage, we had trouble with minor things. They weren’t glaring, but I know they were trouble.”

Alex Smith threw for 237 yards and connected with Travis Kelce, who caused trouble for the Jets all day, for a touchdown.

Gang Green now is facing an ominous threegame slate in which it will need to play far better than it did against the Chiefs Sunday.

“We better sleep it off and get back to work Monday,” Bowles said.
