Finally captured on ’80s heroin warrant

- John Marzulli

A MANHATTAN MAN indicted nearly 30 years ago for heroin trafficking was busted Tuesday after popping a warrant during a routine traffic stop in New Jersey, the Daily News has learned.

Hanson Wong, 52, was arraigned in Brooklyn Federal Court on the decadesold case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Keith Edelman said Wong was the leader of the five defendant crew named in the indictment, which alleges a conspiracy to import heroin from Bangkok. At least two co-defendants were convicted and sentenced to prison, according to the court docket, but it is unclear how Wong fell through the cracks.

Wong (photo) was arrested three times from 1995 to 2004 in other states, but he provided aliases and bogus Social Security numbers to authorities in those cases.

Defense lawyer Sam Jacobson said he planned to file a motion to have the charges dismissed due to the length of time that has passed since Wong was indicted.

Wong pleaded not guilty and was released on $150,000 bail and ordered to wear an electronic ankle bracelet to monitor his whereabouts.
