MA BARES JAIL SCAM

Says beaten son baited guards

EVEN HIS OWN mother says he’s lying.

A Rikers Island inmate beaten up by two correction officers had boasted just months earlier that he planned to lure officers into an attack so he could score a payout from the city, the jailbird’s mom told investigators.

“All I need to do is get bruised up or have a fight with one of the correction officers. We can get a lot of money, ma!” Ambiorix Celedonio, then 18, said during a 2014 jailhouse visit, his mother said, according to newly-released court documents.

Later that year, Celedonio got into an argument with Officers Jean Destine and Medzid Kolenovic inside a jail cafeteria, prosecutors said.

According to the Bronx district attorney’s office, Destine and Kolenovic, who were indicted in September 2015, lured the teen into a supply closet, attacked him with pepper spray and beat him to a pulp.

Both officers then allegedly tried to cover up the attack by filing false “use of force” reports, prosecutors said.

But the victim’s mother, Adriana Gutierrez, told investigators this past August that Celedonio had admitted to starting the Dec. 9, 2014, tussle.

After getting into a shouting match with one of the officers, “I told him to take his belt off and let’s fight,” the teen said, according to his mom.

“We went into a back room. I was fighting the black officer,” Celedonio said, according to a letter made public Wednesday in Bronx Supreme Court.

“I punched him, and I had the upper hand in the fight until the other correction officer used pepper spray on me,” Celedonio allegedly said.

Bronx prosecutors turned over the new information as part of their obligation to disclose evidence favorable to defendants.

Investigators are weighing whether the inmate’s mother is telling the truth, as she has had conflicts with her son in the past, sources said.

In her August interview, Gutierrez went on to say that she called the cops several times on Celedonio after her son had moved back in with her after his release from Rikers.

Celedonio was arrested this spring for allegedly robbing his own grandparents’ home on E. 171st. St. in Mount Eden, authorities said. He allegedly threatened to kill his 78-year-old grandmother and 69-year-old grandfather before they handed him $27. He also smashed a stool into the wall and stole the family’s cordless phone, according to court papers.

Celedonio also filed a $4 million federal lawsuit against the city and the officers this past March — but a judge ordered the case frozen until the Bronx case is resolved.

Adding to the potential issues with the case, the district attorney’s office admitted Tuesday that they were not ready for trial — since they had lost contact with Celedonio.

A judge adjourned the case to Oct. 25, at which point the DA’s office is expected to decide whether it will move forward with the case against the two officers.
