DRC set for Vikes despite injury

-

DOMINIQUE RodgersCromartie said Wednesday that he “definitely” believes he will be able to play in the Giants’ test in Minnesota on Monday, despite a groin injury that sidelined the veteran corner for half of Sunday’s 29-27 home loss to Washington.

“I feel like it is a game that we are going to need everybody,” said Rodgers-Cromartie, who already has done some light running. “So the main thing is to stay heavy on the treatment and continue to strengthen it.”

Rookie corner Eli Apple was not as optimistic about the hamstring he injured on punt coverage Sunday. Apple said the ailment is “getting better” but added “I don’t know about” participating in practice on Thursday.

The Giants secondary needs to heal quickly — and that includes starting rookie safety Darian Thompson (sprained left foot).

The Giants have no interceptions through the first three weeks for the first time since 1934. The pass rush is part of the problem, but the secondary has gotten its signals crossed, too.

Steve Spagnuolo’s revamped unit was stingy, allowing two total touchdowns in the opening two wins over the Cowboys and Saints. But Sunday, Washington’s offense exploded for two TD passes of 44 yards or more, the first time against a Giant defense since Dallas’ Tony Romo hit Sam Hurd (51) and Terrell Owens (47) in 2007.

BACKS, BACK, BACK

Rashad Jennings said you can’t replace teammate Shane Vereen, who needs triceps surgery and is on injured reserve. But Jennings (left wrist, thumb injuries) hopes to practice Thursday and will “hopefully” play Monday Night after sitting out Week 3. Whether or not Jennings plays, Orleans Darkwa and Bobby Rainey both are due to receive an increased workload. … The Giants signed offensive tackle Jon Halapio, 25, to their practice squad. Halapio was a sixth-round Patriots draft pick in 2014 but has not played in an NFL regular-season game.
