Changes coming to Stadium
What’s wrong with just watching a baseball game?
The Yankees announced Monday that Yankee Stadium will undergo its first series of major design enhancements since the ballpark opened in 2009, adding seven new social gathering spaces as well as additional food and beverage areas. The renovations should be done in time for the start of the 2017 season.
Among the enhancements will be a first-ever children’s zone at the ballpark. Shaped like a minibaseball field with a soft, artificial surface, the 2,850-square-foot area will be located on the 300 level in right field.
The team is also adding social areas to the 200 level in center field, the 100 level in left and right field, as well as in sections 134, 311 and 328.
The changes have already drawn criticism from those who believe they will take away from what fans are supposed to do at a baseball game — watch a baseball game.
“See, they don’t think going to the game is good enough anymore, folks,” WFAN host Mike Francesa said on the air Monday. “They think that the fan needs other things to keep them busy at the game instead of a good, exciting team.” — Staff report
BRONCOS ROLL
The Denver Broncos ruined Brock Osweiler’s homecoming, incessantly hurrying, hitting and harassing their former teammate in a 27-9 win over his visiting Houston Texans.
The Broncos (5-2) snapped a two-game skid and sent the overwhelmed Texans home at 4-3.
Trevor Siemian outplayed Osweiler, who was groomed to be Denver’s next QB but instead bolted to Houston in free agency.
Osweiler was just 22 for 41 for 131 yards with no TDs and no interceptions. Siemian was 14 of 25 for 157 yards, a TD and no interceptions.
FOSTER RETIRES
Four-time Pro Bowler Arian Foster says he can no longer take the punishment an NFL running back endures, so he is retiring midway through an injuryplagued season with the Miami Dolphins.
Foster, 30, tried to come back from a torn Achilles tendon, but was slowed this season by groin and hamstring injuries.
