Pre-K aid for homeless: pols
ALBANY — Three state lawmakers say they will push a package of bills in the next legislative session to make it easier for homeless preschool kids to get an education.
“The state should do everything in our power to ensure all students have easy access to quality education regardless of their housing situation,” said Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (DQueens).
Bills introduced this year by Rozic and Assemblymen Andrew Hevesi (D-Queens) and Michael Blake (D-Bronx) would allow homeless pre-K students to remain in their original schools.
Another would prioritize inclusion of homeless kids when districts create pre-K programs.
