Just leaf me alone in my treehouse!
A FLORIDA woman who’s lived in a Miami treehouse for 25 years is fighting the city’s bid to give her the boot and tear the tree down.
“I’m not leaving. I haven’t slept indoors in 25 years. It’s just who I am,” said Shawnee Chasser, 65. “I don’t want them telling me what my happiness is because I don’t fit in one of their boxes.”
Miami-Dade County code inspectors have declared the home unfit for human habitation and ordered it torn down.
Chasser, who lives with her dogs, cats and a pet raccoon, has hired lawyers to fight the order and is holding a fund-raiser next month. It’s “a peaceful, harmless structure that hurts nobody,” said one of her lawyers, Ari Bargil.
