Charge slay cop, Bronx DA urged
ACTIVISTS urged Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark on Tuesday to pursue criminal charges against a cop who allegedly broke protocol when he shot and killed a 66-year-old schizophrenic Bronx woman last week after she threatened cops with a baseball bat.
Sgt. Hugh Barry was placed on modified duty after the Oct. 18 shooting death of Deborah Danner, a tragedy city officials said should have been prevented.
Community leaders said they want Barry to get prison time.
“Deborah Danner, a 66-yearold woman, was murdered last week by a police officer who had other alternatives,” said Hawk Newsome, the New York president of Black Lives Matter. “If it was his grandmother, he would not have shot her.”
Clark has promised a “reasoned and independent” probe.
