Schooling responsibility
Ronkonkoma, L.I.: Voicer Joe Ametrano states that “No law requires New York City to provide education, let alone school bus transportation.” Article XI of the New York State Constitution deals with education. It states that “the Legislature shall provide for the maintenance and support of a system of free common schools, wherein all the children of this state may be educated.” It also goes on to say that “the Legislature may provide for the transportation of children to and from any school or institution of learning.” Thus, New York City must provide education as well as bus transportation.
