Ma of cop-slain son goes home

THE MOTHER of a man fatally shot by cops after he threatened her with a screwdriver made a somber return to her Queens home Sunday morning.

Jarzette Jacobs, 55, her brother, Anthony Nicholson, and two other women came back to the house on Westgate St. in Springfield Gardens hours after the deadly shooting occurred inside.

“We can’t figure out what happened yesterday morning,” a grieving Nicholson said. “We are trying to piece everything together.”

Police said a neighbor called 911 to report Jacobs’ son, Jahlire Nicholson, 28, was trying to kill his mother about 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

“He’s gonna kill me! He’s gonna kill me!” the witness heard Nicholson’s mother screaming, according to police.

The first two cops on the scene saw Nicholson trying to attack his mother in an outdoor stairway leading to the building’s rear basement apartment, authorities said.

Jacobs was moved to safety by the officers, who then got into a fight with her son after he refused to drop his weapon, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol Terry Monahan.

Initially, the officers fired a Taser, but missed.

The two cops then fired one shot each, hitting Nicholson in the shoulder and leg, police said.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he died.

“She’s not sure what happened,” the uncle said, referring to his sister, who he noted was close with her son.

On Sunday, cops said Jacobs was returning to the home to pick up a wallet. She was escorted by officers.

Police sources said Nicholson, who split his time between his mother’s house and a home on Long Island, was on probation for gun possession.

He had been arrested 10 times since 2003 on charges including assault, robbery, weapons possession and pot possession, sources said.

Cops were summoned to his mother’s home at least four times between 2002 and 2006 because Nicholson was fighting with his family, sources said.
