It’ll be the ‘People’ v. Trump

Jis hoping to take a page from the playbook when he hosts the People’s Choice Awards. Streep stole the show with her anti-Donald speech, and the “Community” actor (photo) says he won’t hold back on the President-elect when he takes charge of the awards show airing tonight on CBS. “I definitely will be talking Trump,” he told Confidential. “I mean, the inauguration is two days later, so if I don’t bring it up, it’s going to be weird,” he continued. “I’m not going to tell you the jokes I’m telling, but I’m definitely going to bring it up.” And the comic is expecting some stars might feel the need to spout off at the podium. “Obviously, when people get up and make speeches, there’s nothing I can do about it and unless they have a guy with a huge hook that drags people off for whatever reason,” he explained. “This is why America is so great, because we can speak our minds in public forums when microphones are put in front of people — and when they’re not — and we’re not going to be put in jail for it.”

McHale, who was the featured entertainer at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2014, remembers a conversation he had with a Hungarian reporter after that event. He told McHale that he would have been jailed for making jokes like that in Hungary.

“I think sometimes people take that for granted,” the 45-year-old actor said. “There are so many places around the world where that happens right now. That is what makes America one of the greatest countries in the world, because our citizens can speak their minds. That is pretty extraordinary.”

McHale, who currently stars in CBS’ “The Great Outdoors,” says he isn’t really sweating the live event: “I’ll be so relaxed that I’ll be wearing a diaper,” he joked. “I can relax all body functions, that’s how relaxed I’ll be.”
