E-Z ripoff: Man Bomb threat owes $56,000 reroutes jet
PORT AUTHORITY cops arrested a man they say racked up more than $56,000 in bridge and tunnel tolls, officials said Saturday.
Police stopped Alesandel Rodriguez’s 2014 Toyota on the George Washington Bridge about 10:30 a.m. Friday when it rolled through an E-ZPass toll lane without paying.
There were no license plates on the car the 31-year-old was driving, officials said. He had a temporary New York tag that expired last month.
A quick check of his name revealed that Rodriguez’s E-ZPass account was revoked after he accumulated 888 violations and owed $56,240 in unpaid bills, officials said.
Cops charged the Teaneck, N.J, resident with theft of service. A BOMB THREAT caused a New Jersey flight to the Dominican Republic to make an unscheduled landing in Florida Saturday, authorities said.
JetBlue flight 893 left Newark Airport at about 1 p.m, and was rerouted to Fort Lauderdale “out of an abundance of caution,” airline officials said.
Someone discovered a suspicious note with a bomb threat scrawled inside of one of the plane’s bathrooms, said a spokeswoman for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
After the plane landed at 4:20 p.m, passengers were evacuated while law enforcement – including a SWAT team – searched the plane, a witness said.
Police did not find any explosives and cleared the jet for take off. All passengers were rescreened, officials said, before continuing on to Santiago, Dominican Republic.
