Showing ‘Hidden Figures’
Inspired by the invaluable contributions of the heroines in the Hollywood film “Hidden Figures,” the JetBlue Foundation Partners and the Greater New York Chapter of The Links Inc. are presenting a special invitation-only screening of the moving movie Sunday at the Jamaica Multiplex Cinemas in Queens.
Young people often under-represented in careers in science, technology, engineering and math will be attending the screening and a panel discussion featuring women and minority pilots sharing how education helped shaped their careers. Each attendee will get a copy of the book “Hidden Figures” by Margot Shetterly.
“Hidden Figures” is the story of the three African-American women behind NASA’s first successful space missions in the 1960s.
JetBlue pilots Becky Roman-Amador, Ophneal Kellman Jr. and Kimberly McCommon will take part in the panel discussion. Visit www.jetblue.com/inspiringhumanity for more about the JetBlue Foundation.
Home-based travel agents hosted
A group of home-based travel agents — a special breed of representative in the tourism industry — got some special treatment recently at the seventh annual Sandals Resorts Home-Based Agent Conference, held at the Sandals Royal Bahamian from Jan. 13 to 15.
About 150 American and Canadian home-based agents connected, networked and heard about their important impact and growth in the industry.

Haiti midwives fund-raiser
The point is saving lives and “midwives save lives,” say the executives of the Foundation for Advancement of Haitian Midwives, which is holding its “Ti Pil Ti Pil Fé Chaj (A little amount plus a little amount makes a load)” benefit on Jan. 28 in New York to fund the education of midwives in Haiti.
The FAHM’s commemoration and celebration affair — being held at Home Sweet Harlem, 1528 Amsterdam Ave. (between 135th and 136th Sts.) — features music. For information send email to martine@fahminc.org, call (212) 926-9616 and visit www.fahminc.org.
