A-Rod will be in camp next week

-

TAMPA — Alex Rodriguez is coming soon. A-Rod is slated to join the Yankees as a special instructor during spring training next week, the Daily News confirmed Thursday. He will be in camp as an instructor for approximately three days, according to ESPN. Exact dates are unknown.

“He’s just going to do what everybody else does,’’ Brian Cashman said.

“When he comes in, (bench coach) Rob Thomson and Joe Girardi will tell him where and what.’’

A-Rod, who was released last August, is due $21 million in the final year of his 10year, $275 million contract.

Hal Steinbrenner said Wednesday that he could envision A-Rod’s role within the organization expanding.

“We haven’t talked about that, and obviously he’s been doing more broadcasting as well and he’s got other things going on in his life,” Steinbrenner said. “But the more he’s involved, he’s been absolutely tremendous with the young players — always has been — and we’re going to continue to talk about different ways he can be involved.”

KAPRIELIAN THROWS ’PEN

James Kaprielian, who missed nearly all of last season with an elbow injury, impressed Joe Girardi in his bullpen session Thursday. Kaprielian, who turns 23 in March, displayed a changeup that acted like a hard splitter, Girardi said.

The Yankees are high on Kaprielian — their 2015 first-round pick — and Girardi was just the latest to say he wouldn’t be surprised to see the righty reach the big leagues in 2017.

CARTER SIGNING OFFICIAL

The Yankees made their one-year deal with Chris Carter official Thursday.

Carter, who hit 41 homers last season with Milwaukee, provides depth at first base and designated hitter and gives Girardi a power right-handed option.

To make room for Carter on the 40-man roster, the Bombers designated lefty Richard Bleier for assignment.
