‘Trashed’ wife
After sawing her, threw parts into dumpster
A BROOKLYN man accused of killing his wife used a saw to cut her into pieces before tossing her body parts into a dumpster, according to court records released Saturday.
Phillip Martin, 42, lived with the body for six days in the couple’s apartment on Linden Blvd. near Bedford Ave. in Prospect Lefferts Gardens before using a wood saw and a hammer to dismember 43-year-old Diana Rodriguez-Martin, police sources said.
Her family realized she was missing when she failed to show up for a doctor’s appointment on Feb. 8. They called the husband, who told them she had moved out with the couple’s dog on Jan. 16.
Rodriguez-Martin’s worried aunt Alba Reyes reported her missing on Monday. She told cops she either talked or texted with her niece at least once a week but had not seen or heard from Rodriguez-Martin in seven weeks.
Investigators discovered Martin was using his wife’s credit cards during her disappearance.
When cops questioned him, he allegedly confessed to punching Rodriguez-Martin to death on Jan. 12 and chopping her up and dumping body six days later. He said he threw her remains in a trash bin on Bedford Ave. near the Prospect Park Parade Grounds.
Cops charged him with murder and concealment of a human corpse.
Police were called to the couple’s Linden Blvd. home eight times in recent years to respond to domestic violence complaints. Martin was arrested twice on accusations of attacking his wife, police sources said.
Rodriguez-Martin had also been arrested twice, on charges of attacking her husband, sources said.
A judge ordered Martin held without bail following a brief arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court Friday night.
