Protest: Free tumor patient

- Kerry Burke and Nancy Dillon

URGENT CALLS for the release of an undocumented immigrant battling a life-threatening brain tumor came Friday from Amnesty International and the ailing woman’s lawyer.

Attorney Fatma Marouf headed to a federal immigration court in Dallas to fight for the release of Sara Beltran Hernandez, 26, so she can join her family in Queens.

Federal immigration officials could free her pending a final decision on her asylum bid, said Marouf. If not, “we’re hoping the judge will be merciful and release her,” said Marouf, who hopes to get a Monday hearing.

The human rights group urged its members and supporters to call officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security.

“This is an injustice,” said Luz Corral, 65, who joined a small protest outside the ICE offices in Manhattan. “What threat does she pose to the United States?”

Beltran Hernandez, a victim of gang and domestic violence in her native El Salvador, was yanked from a Texas hospital bed Wednesday and placed in a detention center.
