Isles top ’Nucks in OT
Andrew Ladd found the back of the net 1:33 into overtime Thursday night to carry the visiting Islanders past the Vancouver Canucks, 4-3. Calvin de Haan assisted on the winner.
Vancouver tied it at three on a wrist shot by Troy Stecher with 19.3 seconds left in regulation, setting the stage for Ladd’s heroics.
l Francois Beauchemin scored with 1:14 left in the third period, and the Colorado Avalanche handed the visiting New Jersey Devils their ninth straight loss with a 3-2 victory. Taylor Hall and Stefan Noesen scored for New Jersey, and Cory Schneider stopped 19 shots.
TIGER OUT
Tiger Woods won’t be playing the Arnold Palmer Invitational next week and still doesn’t know when he can compete again.
Woods announced on his website Thursday night that ongoing rest and rehabilitation on his back will keep him away from the tournament he has won eight times. Woods says he was particularly disappointed to miss Bay Hill because of the celebration of the tournament host.
RUSS TIES WILT
Russell Westbrook had his 31st triple-double of the season to help the host Oklahoma City Thunder beat the San Antonio Spurs 102-92. Westbrook had 23 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists to match Wilt Chamberlain’s 196768 campaign for the second-most triple-doubles in a season.
l The NBA has fined New Orleans Pelicans front-court star DeMarcus Cousins $50,000 for “directing inappropriate language” toward fans during two recent road games.
VINCE TO CFL
Vince Young has signed with the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The 33-year-old former Texas and NFL quarterback agreed Thursday to a two-year deal — one year, plus an option. He last played in an NFL regularseason game in 2011 with Philadelphia and retired in 2014 after being released by Cleveland.
“I wouldn’t say a comeback. I’d just say an opportunity,” Young said.
