Iowa St. wins Big 12,
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Everybody on the Iowa State bench got a snippet of net from the Big 12 Tournament. Monte Morris got just about the whole thing. It was only fitting the most valuable player in the Big 12 Tournament, the senior guard who kept willing the No. 23 Cyclones to victory, got to hang the net around his neck. Morris scored 17 points in the title game Saturday night to send Iowa State to an 80-74 victory over No. 11 West Virginia. It was the third title in four years for the Cyclones. Third in four years for Morris, too. “Monte is great. You win with great players,” said Iowa State coach Steve Prohm, who won his first title in his second season in charge. “I was very fortunate to walk into him being our point guard.”
ARIZONA 83, OREGON 80: Allonzo Trier scored 23 points, leading the Wildcats to a Pac-12 tournament title over undermanned Oregon, which was missing star Chris Boucher to a torn ACL.
N C CENTRAL 67, NORFOLK STATE 59: Patrick Cole scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Dajuan Graf added 17 points, and North Carolina Central beat Norfolk State in the MidEastern Athletic Conference Tournament championship game in Norfolk for the Eagles’ second NCAA Tournament spot in four years.
TEXAS SOUTHERN 53, ALCORN STATE 50: Kevin Scott had 15 points and 12 rebounds and top-seeded Texas Southern beat Alcorn State to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament title in Houston.
VERMONT 56, ALBANY 53: Ver- mont capped off a perfect
America East season with the fourth Big Ten title Sunday against No. 8 seed Michigan, which will be playing its fourth game in four days. It will be the seventh championship game appearance for the Badgers, trailing only the eight by Ohio State.
SMU 70, UCF 59: Sterling Brown scored 22 points and No. 12 SMU beat UCF in Hartford in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
Semi Ojeleye added 17 points, and Shake Milton had 14 of his 16 points in the second half for the Mustangs (294). They are back in the championship game after missing last year’s tournament because of NCAA sanctions. The Mustangs won the title in 2015.
SMU has won 15 straight games and 25 of its last 26 after a 4-3 start to their season.
KENTUCKY 79, ALABAMA 74: De’Aaron Fox scored a career-high 28 points, including seven straight down the stretch, and Malik Monk added 20 to lift No. 8 Kentucky past Alabama in Nashville in the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinal.
The Wildcats shot 52 percent from the floor and 69 percent from the line after missing numerous chances that left openings for the pesky Crimson Tide to stay close.
