Alex rips self in college chat

- BY MIKE MAZZEO

At least he admitted it. Alex Rodriguez talked openly about his mistakeriddled past with University of Miami students during a luncheon on Thursday, according to CBS Miami.

“I think just being a big jerk, you know?” A-Rod said. “I was just a really big jerk.”

In 2013, A-Rod sued Major League Baseball, the MLBPA and Yankees team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad as he was appealing his suspension following the Biogenesis steroid scandal. All the lawsuits were eventually dropped, with Rodriguez serving a season-long doping suspension in 2014.

“I made mistakes and then I doubled down and became a bigger jerk and then went on sports radio and made an ass of myself,” A-Rod said, mentioning the infamous 2013 interview with WFAN’s Mike Francesa in which he denied any wrongdoing.

Asked at the time if he was guilty of any of the charges during the scandal, A-Rod told the Sports Pope, “No, and I shouldn’t serve one inning.

“I feel like I should be out there Opening Day,” A-Rod said.

Rodriguez has a history of calling himself an ass. He made similar comments to WFAN’s Suzyn Waldman last August.

“I’m upset about the mistakes and disappointed, but I’m even more disappointed that I acted like an ass,” A-Rod told Waldman. “I doubled down, and that whole process was painful. In the back nine of my career, I hope to be able to pay it forward and let youngsters know about my mistakes, and hopefully they can avoid some of those.”

Rodriguez, who has 696 career homers, was asked if he’d be upset if he isn’t voted into the Hall of Fame.

“Oh yeah, of course,” he replied. “I think any kid would love and relish the opportunity to be in Cooperstown but I don’t have a vote. With the things that have happened, I think for me I want to make sure that I’m a Hall of Fame father and a Hall of Fame businessman.”

Asked about his relationship with Jennifer Lopez, A-Rod responded with a laugh, “Let’s just get back to baseball.”

A-Rod has served as a $21 million special instructor with the Yankees during spring training.
