Alarm bell! Todd OK with tardiness

- BY NICHOLAS PARCO

The culture of the Jets isn’t going to change any time soon.

Despite the constant tardiness of Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson during Gang Green’s embarrassing 2016 campaign, head coach Todd Bowles was already making excuses for them Tuesday.

“Sometimes you’re late to work. It’s life. It’s not life threatening,” the coach said. “. . . Sometimes your alarm clock isn’t going to go off.”

To back up his laissez-faire concept, Bowles noted that both Wilkerson and Richardson did not have issues after their lateness got so bad that they were benched.

“Those guys, after that, were sharp,” Bowles said. “They were fine. We didn’t have a problem with them after that.”

With the departures of veterans like Darrelle Revis, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brandon Marshall, Wilkerson and Richardson are two of the only leaders left in the Jets locker room.

Usually, veteran leaders are accountable for their actions and lead by example.

But it seems that Bowles is already covering for the potential off-the-field issues that two of the only players he can turn to in the locker room will have. There’s no telling how he’ll handle the eventual numerous on the field issues the Jets are sure to have, coming off a dismal 5-11 season and with depleted roster.
