Can Hack it at QB
Drive last season that didn’t subscribe to the notion that Hackenberg absolutely was going to be put on ice for the season.
Regardless, the quarterback conundrum is the biggest anchor at the moment. Bowles didn’t rule out the possibility of adding another quarterback in the upcoming draft.
“I wouldn’t say we’re done,” Bowles said. “We may or may not draft one.” Not exactly illuminating stuff. The quarterback concerns, of course, are at the heart of a season that promises to be a bit rough. Woody Johnson’s billion-dollar franchise might be in full-fledged rebuilding mode (not to be confused with “tank” mode), but Bowles isn’t about to concede anything in 2017.
“Our expectations inside the building are high,” Bowles said. “It doesn’t matter what everyone else’s expectations are.”
He predictably didn’t take the cheese about whether the Jets are a playoff team. (Spoiler: They are not).
“It’s too early for that,” Bowles said. “We got a lot of work to do.”
There will be no shortage of storylines this season, but Bowles will never be able to get away from the most important one. e needs to find a quarterback. Somehow, some way.
An open competition among the three guys on his roster right now is the right move.
The Jets will keep their fingers crossed that Hackenberg wins it.
