PRESIDENT TRUMP’S approval ratings continue to nosedive — and last week’s Obamacare repeal-and-replace debacle hasn’t helped, according to two new polls.
The President’s approval rating, according to the Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday, dropped to 46% — down from 50% the prior week.
While Trump’s disapproval numbers only narrowly exceed his approval rating, the gap between his opponents and supporters is widening.
Some 38% of voters now strongly disapprove of Trump — compared with only 23% who strongly approve, the poll found.
At the same time, Gallup’s daily tracking poll hit a new low of 35% on Wednesday — a 1-point drop since Tuesday, which continues a downward trend since he was sworn in.
It’s the first Politico/Morning Consult poll taken after last Friday’s decision by House Speaker Paul Ryan to pull from the floor a bill that would have replaced the Affordable Care Act signed into law in 2010.
Trump’s repeatedly vowed during last year’s presidential campaign to scrap Obamacare and replace it once he won the White House.
The previous Morning Consult poll, taken on March 16, found that Trump had a 50% approval rating — with 44% displeased with his performance.
Trump’s approval rating was at a personal-best 52% on March 9 as he prepared to amp up efforts to take down the Affordable Care Act.
Other polls, however, have been consistently worse for Trump since he took office Jan. 20.
Trump’s approval rating, according to Gallup’s latest tracking, now stands at a lowly 35%.
Gallup’s polling is based on interviews with 1,500 voters.
