In a series of early morning tweets, President Trump accuses predecessor Barack Obama of having had Trump Tower wiretapped during the presidential election campaign.
MARCH 5:
The White House issues a statement asking congressional probes into Russian activities to check whether Obama abused his authority in 2016.
MARCH 20
FBI Director James Comey testifies before the House Intelligence Committee, and says he “has no information that supports” Trump’s wiretap claims.
MARCH 21
House Oversight Committee Chairman Devin Nunes secretly goes to the White House grounds to review evidence of alleged surveillance of Trump and his associates.
MARCH 22
Nunes holds a press conference to announce he confirmed that “the intelligence community incidentally collected information about U.S. citizens involved in the Trump transition.”
He goes to the White House to brief the President on the information, which he does not share with his committee.
MARCH 23
White House spokesman Sean Spicer (left) pushes back on speculation Nunes’ information came from the White House.
“I don’t know why he would come in to brief the President on something that we gave him,” Spicer said.
