Prez tax plan just for rich – study FIGHT: TRUMP VS. ‘FREEDOM’

- BY BEN KOCHMAN and LEONARD GREENE

WASHINGTON — Vice President Pence rushed to the Senate Thursday to cast a tiebreaking vote to let states block federal grants for family planning centers.

The measure eliminates an Obama-era rule that kept states from defunding health care providers like Planned Parenthood for political reasons — and could lead to the closing of health centers across the country.

Pence (inset photo) was brought in as the deciding vote after a pair of female Republican senators defected to vote against it. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) slammed it as a “very discriminatory bill,” warning of its impact on poor and rural women. CITY CONTROLLER Scott Stringer criticized President Trump’s tax reform plan Thursday, and delivered the ultimate insult — he called Trump a “millionaire.”

While tearing down Trump’s tax proposal as a plan that would reward the rich and punish the poor, Stringer (photo inset) used the dreaded “M” word to describe the fat cat-turned-free world leader instead of the more widely accepted description that begins with a “B.”

“The Trump administration’s tax plan, as proposed during his campaign, would provide significant tax cuts to nearly all millionaires in New York City — like President Trump himself — while actually raising taxes on many single parents, moderate- and middle-income New Yorkers, and working families,” said a statement from Stringer’s office.

A billionaires list put out earlier this month by Forbes magazine listed Trump’s net worth at $3.5 billion, down $1 billion from the rankings it issued a year ago.

Trump has put his net worth as high as $10 billion, but has declined to release tax returns that would give a clearer picture of his finances.

Stringer said Trump’s plan, as proposed during his campaign, would lower taxes for millionaires by an average of $113,000, while nearly half of single parents with children would pay more.

“It’s written by millionaires, for millionaires. It’s a Mar-a-Lago special,” said Stringer — referring to Trump’s lavish Palm Beach, Fla., resort — at a press conference announcing his analysis.

According to Stringer’s report, more than 95% of taxpayers with income between $500,000 and $1 million would pay the same or less than they do today. More than 300,000 single New Yorkers with children would face higher taxes, he said.

Trump’s tax plan would cost the feds $2 trillion in lost revenue over the next decade, Stringer said.

His proposal to eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax would have given himself a $31 million cut in 2005 alone, the controller said, referring to Trump’s recently revealed tax returns for that year.

Trump said he was focusing on tax reform after his plan to repeal and replace Obamacare fell apart in the House of Representatives.

Stringer wasn’t the first Trump tax plan critic. Days earlier, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi criticized Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan for pushing a tax plan she said transfers wealth from the poor to the rich. “It’s Robin Hood in reverse,” Pelosi said. “Some people call it Ryan Hood.” WASHINGTON — President Trump trained his fire on members of his own party Thursday, declaring in the aftermath of the Republicans’ failed health care push that the conservative Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire GOP agenda. “The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agendaif theydon’t get on the team, &afst. We must fight them, & Dems, in2018!”Trump tweetedabout the group that helped scuttle his Obamacare repealbill. Hours later, he singled out three members of the Freedom Caucus — Rep . RaulLabrador of Idaho, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohioand its chairman, Rep. Mar k Meadows of North Carolina— inaseries of tweets. Labrador tweeted back: “Freedom Caucus stood with uwhen others ran. Remember whoyour realfriendsare.”
