Jets get a Mitchell Report
The Jets’ pre-draft quarterback evaluations seemingly never end. Gang Green held a private workout with North Carolina signal caller Mitchell Trubisky in Chapel Hill on Thursday, according to sources. The news shouldn’t come as a surprise given that Trubisky announced at his Pro Day last week that the Jets were among the teams that had scheduled a workout with him. “I’m finally ready to take that next leap to the next level,” Trubisky told NFL Network after his Pro Day workout last week. “My journey was a little unconventional. It was different. But it’s prepared me in a different way that most quarterbacks haven’t gone through. So, I’m ready mentally. I know how to work. I know how to be a great team player, but I also know how to be that leader. I know how to be that starting quarterback. I can do everything you need me to do on that field. I’m definitely that guy you want leading your franchise and leading your locker room.”
The Daily News reported three months ago that buzz among scouts across the league was that some people in the Jets organization were enamored by Trubisky.
The Jets sent key coaches and scouts to Trubisky’s Pro Day last week when the quarterback revealed that the Jets, Browns, 49ers and Chiefs had scheduled individual workouts with him.
The 6-2, 220-pound Trubisky threw for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns, six interceptions with a 68 percent completion rate in his only season as a starter.
The Jets, who have the No. 6 overall pick, are doing their homework with workouts with other top quarterback prospects too.
Todd Bowles said at the annual league meetings this week that there is a scenario in which the Jets, who have countless needs, could draft a quarterback.
