A Super Mann

pregnant and he’s suffered too many injuries.

I asked him on a conference call if the internal conflict was his desire to be one of the rare players these days to play for just one team vs. any urge he had to try and win a Super Bowl at the end of his career with a new team like Manning did in Denver.

“That was definitely part of it,” he said. “I’m a Dallas Cowboy and I understand that. I also understand history and legacy. I really like to think some guys have done it exactly right, other wish they could do things a little bit different and there’s a handful of guys that just get lucky and everything works out perfectly. I feel like for me, that obviously was there in your mind, playing for one team your whole career. That’s hard to do, especially when you’re a quarterback, because there’s not 32 guys who are going to go out there and give their teams a chance week in and week out. So you’re always going to get the opportunity.”

Romo said, “I don’t envision coming back,” but if he’s not enjoying television and Prescott suffers a late season injury and the Cowboys are serious Super Bowl contenders, well, Romo’s idol growing up in Wisconsin was Brett Favre.

When Romo was cleared to play, the Cowboys were 8-1 and he made a concession speech, acknowledging the job belonged to Prescott. After he was injured in August, he received a heartfelt text from Parcells, who tried to encourage him by saying everybody was counting him out but this was the time to rise up. Romo responded to Parcells by saying he was not done yet. He repeated many of the thoughts that Parcells texted him when he made his speech to the media in November.

Romo was able to play in just one game against the Giants in 2015 and none last year. One more Eli vs. Romo shootout would have been a lot of fun. AP AND GETTY
